As the holidays approach, we would like to offer some ideas for Christmas and New Year in Emilia. Please note the holiday suggestions we have already made, but here we are talking about other events in Parma, Reggio Emilia and Piacenza.
PIACENZA
Enjoy the Hannibal exhibition at the Farnese Palace, describing the Cartheginian warrior who defeated a Roman Army on the Trebbia.
New Year 2019 in the square for all ages, starting at 10pm to await midnight. There will be surprise guests before the main event at 11pm with Michele Tomatis, stage-name “Mt Live Las Vegas”, who will offer an exciting show interpreting 50 years of music from across the world, No fireworks, but there will be fire displays under the the Gotico Palace. Spumante and panettone will be served at midnight for the traditional New Year celebrations.
In the Province
you can visit the Castle at Grazzano Visconti and enjoy a guided tour of its fitted rooms. You can visit from 10am to 4.30pm, and the tour lasts two hours. For more information, visit the Castle website.
At Trevozzo in the Tidone Valley, you can see the Crib of the Sanctuary of Strà, a unique piece of work, since it features 30 different mechanical movements that make the hand-made people move. It covers 20 square metres, in a dedicated room inside the Sanctuary. Built entirely in traditional hand-made style, it is open from 8 to 24 December 2018 from 14.30 – 18.00. Christmas Eve will see Midnight Mass at 23.30, and from 25 December to 6 January, it is open every afternoon from 14.30 – 18.00. at Castell’Arquato until 13 January, you can see the “a world of Cribs” exhibition in the Podestà Palace near Mezzanino, with objects of interest also to children. It is open from 10.30-12.30 and 2.30-6.00. Yuo can find more information at the website of the Council Tourism office.
PARMA
New Year in Parma in Piazza Garibaldi, a free concert in the historic centre as we await the arrival of the New Year. On Boxing Day, you can enjoy the Premiata Formerai Marconi playing a special concert – “The Sound of Time” – on stage from 11pm.
In the province
Bazzano is the home of the crib, a town entirely dedicated to Christmas cribs, createdfor the pure pleasure of doing so.

REGGIO EMILIA
Saturday 15 December, at 4.15pm at the Basilica of San Prospero, the Reggiane Guide have organised a guided tour, celebrating the famous copy (by Boulanger) of the “Night” of Correggio. It costs €5 a head, and the tour lasts 90 minutes.

A new year concert by Daniele Silvestri, starting from 10.45pm. Entrance to the event in Piazza Martiri del 7 Luglio is free.
In the province
the Cicciolo d’oro at Campagnola Emilia, a gastronomic event dedicated to the Italian pork scratching. This year, a glass of Guinness will also be available.
From 15 December to 13 January 2019 at Salvarano in Quattro Castella you can follow the Path of the Cribs, at the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo. It is open on holidays and weekends from 15-23 December, and then 7-13 January, from 2.30-6.30pm. From 24/12 to 06/01, it is open each afternoon from 2.30-6.30pm.
From 15 December to 6 January, the Castellarano exhibition of cribs will be accompanied by an agricultural festival, featuring local products, inside the marvellous Rocchetta which will be decked out in Christmas style. It opens on Saturday 15 December at 4pm, and will remain open every weekend from 15 December to 6 January, from 2.30-6pm and on Sunday 16 December from 10am to 6.30pm (Castellarano has a camper rest area within walking distance of the Rocchetta).
More than 120 exhibits will be visible from 15 December to 13 January inside the Rocca at San Martino in Rio: entrance is free, from 10am-12.30pm, and from 3-6.30pm. Special opening on 24, 26 and 31 December – on 25 December and 1 January, you can go into between 3pm and 6.30pm. See the Facebook page for more information.
